Among the several good reasons for tourists from abroad and from other Italian regions to visit Marche – a multifaceted region and rich in history – there are: an incredibly beautiful, rich and multiform landscape of wild sea, the snow-clad mountains and the gentle hills, the strong culinary traditions and typical local products – referring to the practical stuff, but also (and sometimes particularly) the creative excellences.
Among the most ancient traditions of our region, of the whole Italian country and of the world, is the Carnival, that shows itself in many ways and colors according to the history and the local habits, a traditional and cherished celebration in the region Marche. Carnival is a changeable celebration that takes place five days before Ash Wednesday and lasts for four days, during which people of every age walk down the streets partaking costume parties.
Carnival in Marche acquires and takes the strongest regional features on an extreme level: with a popular temperament, it becomes a blur of colors and tastes in a party atmosphere. People have fun and you can find confetti everywhere, you can buy every kind of regional sweets in the street (among them the famous chiacchiere or Mardi Gras fritters and castagnola), there’s music playing, you can dance and sing, but most important is that you can wear a costume. Just for one day, you can be anyone you want, from the traditional Carnival characters to the most bizarre figures in disguise, or simply wearing a wig. Typical for the Carnival celebration in the region are the huge and eccentric carnival floats, with a different topic each year, which requires an all-yearlong commitment from Carnival institutions.
From Pesaro and Urbino to Fermo, through Ancona and Macerata, each province has its own Carnival parade, but not everyone knows that Marche has a record for the most ancient Carnival of Italy, i.e. the Carnival parade of the city of Fano. There are documents that testify this parade back in 1374, a typical celebration characterized by the “throwing of sweets” from the carnival float to the crowd on the streets. It lasts even longer than any other Carnival: it is celebrated for three Sundays in a row.
Visiting Marche and enjoying the region during this period of celebration is a great pleasure for adults and for kids, we at Marche Country Homes sincerely suggest joining in. It could be a good opportunity to discover the beautiful landscape and discover many opportunities we offer to buy houses that are traditional for our region Marche.
