Among the most famous and appreciated attractions of the region Marche, the city of Pesaro and Rossini are indeed a great couple. The famous composer of “The Barber of Seville” was born in Pesaro in 1792 and the city still today celebrates the indisputable relationship and devotion for his genius.
Pesaro and its Rossini
Gioachino Rossini was one of the most important composer of Italian music, and he was described as the “Italian Mozart” because of his ability to compose very fast. For this reason, the composer became popular and even some exquisite recipes bring his name. Delicious “Cannelloni à la Rossini”, as well as the “Rossini Pizza” with mayonnaise and hard-boiled eggs.
The famous theater of the city of Pesaro was named after Rossini since 1859, as well as the conservatory funded in 1882. In Pesaro you can visit the original house of Gioacchino Rossini, located in the former Via del Duomo (now, Via Rossini) at number 34. The house was recently renovated and restored; it is open for tourists and can be visited according to season timetables.
Since 2016 across 2019, the Municipality of Pesaro organized several celebrations for the 150th Rossini’s death anniversary, including the Rossini Week, an event that every year at the composer’s birthday, i.e. February 29, offers several artistic, musical and movie happenings that you shouldn’t miss.
The hills around Pesaro represent a quiet area into the green landscape of the region Marche, a small paradise where you can relax, not at all far from the Adriatic Coast and the city of Pesaro, where you can go for celebrations and interesting events. The celebrations of Rossini are in fact a small part of the many cultural attractions that the city and the backcountry can offer.
