September in the Marche is one of the most enjoyable times of the year. The mild climate, the summer colours, the relaxed atmosphere and so many opportunities to party!
September in the Marche is all this and much more, thanks to the many events catering for all possible tastes, from cultural to culinary, and those related to local traditions. Each province really does provide many highlights. In this article we will outline some of those that particularly impressed us.
September in the province of Pesaro Urbino
Let us begin with an event that has been held in Urbino for a good 67 years: the Festa dell’Aquilone, scheduled from the 1st to the 4th of September.
An initiative that returns after a two-year hiatus, capable of winning over young and old alike with the city’s historic town centre, declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1998, as centre stage.
The other event that struck us on our journey through September in the Marche is in Pesaro and is the San Nicola Fair, from the 10th to the 12th of September. Alongside the colours, scents, and intense flavours, the city’s seafront will be the setting for a whole host of entertainment with the theme of “games of yesteryear”.
It’s a free-to-attend event that is perfect both for those in the area and for those on holiday in the city of the composer Gioacchino Rossini.
Events in the Ancona area
Senigallia is one of the most lively and renowned seaside resorts in the Marche region and in September there is no shortage of events. We recommend two here, both of a gastronomic nature.
From Friday 6th to Sunday the 8th of September, the Senigallia Food Festival will be held, dedicated to gourmet street food with both sweet and savoury dishes on the menu, created by renowned chefs. A gourmet event, perfect for the end-of-summer days.
No less interesting is Pane Nostrum, from the 27th to the 29th of September. On this occasion, Senigallia turns into an open-air bakery, with courses aimed at both children and adults.
Still in the province of Ancona, we recommend an event at the Frasassi Caves in Genga, characterised by sport and the great outdoors: The Frasassi Climbing Festival, scheduled from the 6th to the 8th of September, intended for all climbing enthusiasts, and set against a backdrop of one of the most beautiful caves in Italy.
September in the Marche: What Macerata has to offer
One of the most original events in September in the Marche region involves the municipality of Monte San Giusto (MC). It is the Clown & Clown Festival and is scheduled from the 29th of September to the 6th of October. Participants get the chance to don a red nose and, well, clown around!
A top musical event is also on the agenda, held in Macerata on the 10th of September at the Sferisterio Arena and will feature the Italian Pink Floyd tribute band: Pink Floyd Legend. They will perform a rendition of the Atom Heart Mother studio album, a show capable of winning over audiences and critics alike.
In Fermo: between culture and tradition
In the town of Monteleone di Fermo, the Sagra del Salmone Affumicato (Smoked Salmon Festival) is scheduled from the 1st to the 4th of September, an event that welcomes gourmet travellers and lovers of one of the most popular fish dishes in Northern Europe. It’s the perfect opportunity to discover Monteleone di Fermo, one of the most beautiful villages in the province, located halfway between the Sibillini Mountains and the Adriatic Sea.
From the 10th to the 11th of September in Belmonte Piceno there is another interesting culinary event you should consider: the Cheese Festival, which is part of Caseifici Agricoli Open Day 2022. It’s a showcase for the entire traditional process behind cheese production, complete with farm visits.
Ascoli Piceno: September is all about discovery
From the 2nd to the 4th of September, San Benedetto del Tronto will host its French Regional Market, a market where visitors can experience and savour the food, wine and artisan products from the other side of the Alps. All areas of France will be represented in one grand venue.
We conclude our review of September events in the Marche region by pointing out that on the 10th of September the new tour by the Nomadi, a legendary band active since the 1960s, entitled Solo Esseri Umani (“Human Beings Only”), will take place in Folignano (AP). This is an ideal opportunity to enjoy some of the greatest hits in the history of Italian pop music.
