As soon as you reach Recanati, a municipality of more than 20 thousand inhabitants located uphill in the province of Macerata, you can actually breathe some infinite air. Giacomo Leopardi is considered the greatest romantic Italian poet of the Nineteenth century; he was born in Recanati where he spent most of his life and where he wrote his famous poem “The Infinite”. Because of this, Recanati is named also “the city of the Infinite” and many aspects of the city connect to the Leopardian poetics and arts. It is a magical experience to live there places, with green hills, breath-taking landscapes and the evocative old town. That is not enough, this typical features have been also considered in the refined and selected museums which cover also other important people of the city of Recanati: such as the arts of Lorenzo Lotto and the music of Beniamino Gigli.
If you nearby, you may visit the municipal museums where you can see the Recanati Annunciation, a masterpiece by Italian Renaissance painter Lotto. You can also visit the historical and archaeological heritage, including a seal by Frederick II who authorized the construction of a tax-free harbour.
Other attractions are Palazzo Leopardi and House of Silvia. You should definitely go for a walk upon the famous “solitary hill”… and maybe visit the museum about the music of Beniamino Gigli, who was born in Recanati, and the modern museum of migration: stories of Italians who relocated abroad.
