Summer is in the air and the urge to spend more time outside, an annual occurrence, is beginning to kick in. The Marche region is one of Italy’s holiday regions par excellence, not only because of the breathtaking landscapes, sea, hills and mountains, but also thanks to the vast choice of summer events and festivals that take place all over the region.
The Marche summer of 2022 promises to be full of pleasant surprises. In this article we’ll be taking you on a voyage of discovery of the main events.
The Unmissable Shows
Summer 2022 begins with several interesting exhibitions, such as the one in June (from the 1st to the 13th, to be precise) by Ardo Quaranta entitled Streghe Fluttuanti (Floating Witches), organised in Fano at the Palazzo Bracci-Pagani exhibition centre. The theme is that of the controversial figure of the witch and refers to the ancestral courage of women, following a distinctly feminine aesthetic.
From the 4th of June to the 31st of August, you can also enjoy the Cracking Art and Young Artists exhibition at the Museo Tattile Statale Omero in Ancona, promoted by the Museo Omero at a national level and included in the ninth edition of the Biennale Arteinsieme-Culture and Cultures without Barriers.
We also recommend the exhibition Pietatis, Sapientia et Otium al tempo del Duca Federico Di Montefeltro in Urbino, at the Museo Diocesano Albani. This is an extremely worthwhile exhibition to learn more about a special period of the Renaissance in Urbino. It can be visited from the 4th of June until the 30th of October.
Pesaro, Italian Capital of Culture 2024
Pesaro has been proclaimed Italian Capital of Culture 2024. A real feat for the city, which overcame the other candidates by gaining the unanimous support of the Commission. To give a taste of what is to come in 2024, there will be numerous events for the whole of 2022, starting in the summer, which is promising to be full of surprises and major festivities. Just take a look at the music events, for example.
Music … And Not Just Classical!
In Pesaro, the city of Gioacchino Rossini, and in Urbino, until July you can enjoy the majestic sounds of the musicians of the Orchestra Sinfonica G. Rossini, who will be performing at the most noteworthy wineries in the area. Events featuring music and good food.
From the 24th of June to the 3rd of August, a not-to-be-missed event is the Villa in Vita Fermo Festival, featuring leading names from the worlds of culture, music, dance and entertainment. Notable among them are Manuel Agnelli, Drusilla and the Balletto di Milano. A cultural event brimming with… life!
There will also be various classical music concerts. For example, in Fano in July there is the Symphony Pop Festival while, in August, you can enjoy the Concerti d’Organo.
Sport and The Great Outdoors
In the Marche region’s summer of 2022, events dedicated to sport and the countryside are of the utmost importance. Of particular note is the Rhythmic Gymnastics World Cup at the Vitrifrigo Arena in Pesaro from the 3rd to the 5th of June, a discipline in which the Italian national female gymnasts won Olympic bronze at the Tokyo 2020 Games.
No less interesting is the Festival of Responsible Tourism, which takes place from the 10th to the 13th of June in Ussita in the Monti Sibillini National Park. This is the first and only festival in Italy that has been focusing on responsible tourism for over thirty years.
These are just some of the many interesting events taking place this summer in the Marche region, where getting bored is all but impossible, both for those who live in the area as well as for those planning to come here on holiday.
