Something more on Staffolo….
Staffolo is a municipality in the hills surrounding the Jesi Valley, which was considered a royal city during the reign of Frederick II. It was, in short, a vassal town, considered one of Jesi’s castles to which it paid tribute.
Jesi had approximately seventeen castles, and Jesi, a county town, collected tributes also from the 17 Castles all around Jesi
Staffolo is a village seo on a hill about 440 meters above sea level and is historically interesting. Its hystorical center, though small and cosy , is very old . In particular, the church and cloister within the hystorical center are built in a style between Romanesque and Gothic, reminiscent of Franciscan architecture. It is well-populated, with bar and restaurants, some of which are very well known , a beautiful view stretching to the sea, and fresh, summer air from the Adriatic. The sea also influences the vineyards for which Staffolo has been famous since ancient times. The name Staphilus derives from the Greek word Στάφυλος, meaning “bunch of grapes.” The Romans loved wine.
And wine production is linked to the name of the famous Verdicchio, which many locals cultivate, along with olive production. There are also numerous festivals associated with the end-of-season harvest. Besides the pleasant climate, there’s also a genuine pleasure in life, a slow life that provides a welcome escape from the stress of the valley or the large urban agglomerations outside the region.
The Adriatic Sea is not far away; it takes about 30 minutes to reach it, but even a little longer if you wind your way up the Conero roads, which are worth crossing to enjoy the surrounding panorama.
It’s in the province of Ancona, so it’s not far from the airport, which can be reached in about twenty minutes via the highway in the valley.
