Even if it is a small town, its name is great and has ancient origins: it actually comes from the name Cupra, Picentes\u2019 goddess of fertility and beauty. Across the years, its name changed several times, but in the end, its original name was restored. It is not the only name that is used nowadays, and the most popular and typical name that describes Cupramontana is Verdicchio wine capital<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

“Verdicchio dei Castelli di Jesi<\/em>\u201d is one of the typical white wines in the region Marche, produced upon its gentle hills, known in Italy and in the world for its quality and unique taste. In the region Marche, monks used to take care of vineyard cultivation in the past. The actual cultivation of \u201cVerdicchio<\/em>\u201d grapes widespread only in the Nineteenth century, and industrial production and wine bottling took place in the early Twentieth century.<\/p>\n

n 1939 the Municipality of Cupramontana was aptly named \u201cVerdicchio wine capital<\/em>\u201d, to demonstrate all over the world that this area is the most fertile and adequate for its geomorphology to produce Verdicchio wine. In 1968 a DOC<\/strong> (\u201cDenominazione di Origine Controllata\u201d) certification consolidated the reality, and defined the municipal area of Cupramontana and its bordering areas as the historical production land of the wine, labeling the Verdicchio wine produced there as \u201cclassico\u201d.<\/p>\n

The most important festival of the year, which takes place in Cupramontana since 1928, is the Wine Festival (\u201cSagra dell\u2019Uva<\/em><\/a>\u201d), during the first weekend of October and it is certainly one of the oldest festivals in Italy. If you own a farmhouse in the region Marche<\/a>, you should not miss this unique opportunity for wine tasting and relaxing upon the green hills.<\/p>\n

Cupramontana, not only Verdicchio wine capital: anyone who lives in the surrounding area, enjoys a uniquely quiet environment and natural landscape, enriched by town festivals and cultural heritage, such as museums, abbeys and parks, and ancient wine companies and cellars.
